14-month-old Wakes Up Screaming Every Night
You've recently transitioned your 14mo son from the family bed to his own crib fairly successfully, except he wakes up every night screaming a little after midnight. The only way to get him back to sleep has been to take him back into your bed. You feel like your marriage and your own mental health is suffering because you can't get a night alone in bed. You've asked your Mom friends, and they give conflicting advice. Which approach would you follow?
A
You have to let him cry it out without going in his room. It's hard, but after a few days he'll give up and you'll have your nights back.
B
When he cries, go in to see and hold him till he falls back asleep, but don't bring him into your bed. Very tiring short-term, but you'll retain his trust and you'll reap rewards in long-run.
C
Have fun with your husband before midnight, and let your baby sleep with you when he wakes up. Humans are primates and babies are instinctually afraid to sleep alone.
D
Put a TV in his room and turn the volume down. Silent cartoons will pacify him until he falls asleep again.
E
None of the above
